A coronary calcium score is a number that shows how much calcium plaque buildup is in the arteries that supply blood to your heart. A higher score means more plaque, and a higher risk of heart disease.
Adults over 40, or anyone with risk factors like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, or a family history of heart disease may benefit most from a Coronary Calcium Scan.
Just about one minute. The entire appointment is quick, simple, and non-invasive—no needles, no prep, and no downtime.
Yes. The test uses a very low dose of radiation, like a mammogram, while giving powerful information about your heart health.
Most patients pay a self-pay rate between $85 and $195, which we’ll share with you before your exam. If you’d like us to try billing insurance, we’ll still provide the self-pay amount in case insurance doesn’t cover it.
Medicaid patients must go through insurance. Self-pay pricing is not available for Medicaid plans.
In some states (Nevada, Texas, and Colorado), you don’t need a formal order. We do, however, need the name of your doctor so the results can be sent to them. In other states, an order may be required.
We do not perform calcium scoring for patients who already have coronary stents, have had bypass surgery, or have a history of atrial fibrillation.
Yes, patients with pacemakers can safely receive the Coronary Calcium Scan.
Please avoid caffeine for 6 hours before your appointment. Otherwise, no special preparation is required for a Coronary Calcium Scan.
Your doctor will usually receive the results within a few business days. They’ll review your results with you and discuss next steps or follow-up care, if needed.
