Dr. David Lefkowitz

Director of MRI

Dr. Lefkowitz received training in radiology and neuroradiology at the University of Miami, and then moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where he served in the United States Air Force. After completing military service, he took a position at Creighton University where he taught neuroradiology, served as program director in radiology, and earned the rank of Associate Professor over a 10 year period. Dr. Lefkowitz then joined the radiology faculty at the University of Maryland where he served as Medical Director of MRI, taught neuroradiology to residents and fellows, and participated in neuroradiology research, also over a 10 year period. He joined SimonMed in 2008, working initially in Scottsdale, Arizona and currently in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Lefkowitz was recently named Medical Director of MRI for SimonMed Imaging.

He chose radiology and neuroradiology as a career because of his interest in advanced imaging technology as it applies to medical care. Having a background in physics and engineering from his undergraduate training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, his academic pursuits were a natural progression, and he primarily focused on translational research, converting complex MRI techniques into practical, real-world clinical applications. Over the course of Dr. Lefkowitz’s career, topics of interest included stroke imaging, brain tumor imaging, multi-modality image co-registration, spectroscopic imaging, fiber tractography, resting state functional connectivity, and quantitive image analysis.
