The buildup of calcium within the walls of
blood vessels is an indicator of heart disease. The
technology available at SimonMed not only determines the
presence of calcium, it also enables us to measure the
amount of the buildup.
Changes in the amount of the calcium over
time may provide clues to the effects of treatment. Our CT
scanner is calibrated, so we can accurately measure even
slight changes with regular exams.
The coronary calcium scan is often used
in conjunction with a blood
vessel scan, which looks at other problems that may be
occurring inside the blood vessels.
