SimonMedTM Spine Scan

Traditional x-rays of the back only show images of bone, and may not be sensitive enough to identify subtle fractures.

Additionally, x-rays can’t show the soft-tissue structures surrounding the bones of the spine, such as the discs between the vertebrae, which can be a common source of pain.

CT can be used to produce more detailed bone images than plain x-rays, and can be very helpful in looking for subtle fractures.

MRI is a common exam used to look at the bones and soft tissues of the spine. It is extremely helpful in diagnosing problems such as slipped or herniated discs.

With the use of advanced imaging techniques like those available at SimonMed, three-dimensional imaging can be completed in minutes. Speed is especially important, because patients with back pain often have difficulty lying down for long periods of time.

Special Preparation
No special preparation is required, except in special cases of infection or cancer staging. In these cases, avoid solid food four hours prior to the exam. Medications and limited liquids are allowed.
