Traditionally, much of women’s
gynecological imaging has
been performed with ultrasound due to the lack of radiation
involved. Gynecological CT scans are often reserved for special cases like
cancer staging.
In the past, gynecological MRI was considered too slow to
be a reasonable alternative. With the gynecological imaging equipment
available at SimonMed, we can now perform highly accurate
gynecological MRI exams in minutes and often demonstrate findings
previously not seen.
Gynecological CT is not limited like ultrasound in having
a good acoustic window. Gynecological MRI can look at blood flow. And
gynecological MRI
can often be used to characterize tissue, which, for
example, gives us the ability to tell the difference between
endometriosis and a simple cyst in a gynecological scan..
When performed quickly and accurately, MRI
has the potential to truly revolutionize women’s imaging.
