Breast MRI has the potential to
revolutionize the detection and treatment of breast cancer.
By using a combination of the Siemens Sonata
breast MRI scanner, a computer-aided detection program by
Confirma,
Inc.to analyze the data, and correlative ultrasound, we can
improve our ability to distinguish between normal and
abnormal tissue.
We can also use the breast imaging technique in
a modified way to analyze breast implants.
Cancer detection breast imaging exams take about 15 minutes
and include the administration of IV contrast. For implant
evaluations, contrast is normally not used and the breast
scan exam
takes about 10 minutes.
Special Preparation
For breast CT cancer detection scans, avoid solid food four hours
prior to the exam. Medications and limited liquids are
allowed. No special preparation is required for breast CT implant exams.
