A blood vessel scan is used to assess the
status of the arteries and veins. In the past, it wasn’t
possible to look at many of the smaller arteries and veins,
and examinations of the larger blood vessels could take
thirty minutes to an hour, or longer.
With the blood vessel imaging technology available at
SimonMed, we can do a complete blood vessel scan of the major arteries
and veins from the neck to the feet in 45 seconds.
And there’s more to the study than just
that. Through our blood vessel imaging, we can now actually quantify a patient’s blood flow,
not only calculating whether or not a vessel has narrowed
and how narrow it is, but our blood vessel MRI also determines
blood velocity
and pressure loss along the narrow sections.
The blood vessel MRI equipment at SimonMed can also look at
disease within the blood vessel walls, which can tell us the
significance of the plaque burden in our patients. Our blood
vessel CT is
an active area of research at SimonMed.
Special Preparation
For our blood vessel CT, please avoid solid food four hours prior to the exam. Medications
and limited liquids are allowed.
